Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) generally signed her paintings using her first and last name, "Frida Kahlo." Kahlo wrote her name in clear, legible cursive. Kahlo sometimes included the year the painting was produced, writing it with four digits or with the last two digits. In some cases, Kahlo signed using capital letters or abbreviating her first name: "F. KAHLO." Some of Kahlo's paintings have longer inscriptions denoting the artist's authorship. In her 1940 self-portrait titled "Self-Portrait Dedicated to Dr. Eloesser," Kahlo included the inscription, "Here I painted myself, Frida Kahlo." Generally, longer inscriptions were on a banner or sign located in the center of the composition. The more common signatures usually appear in one of the bottom corners of the composition and are very discrete and minimized.
